New York Philharmonic stops symphony...

because of a cell phone.

Alright, let me preface this and say I am mute - I rely on texting and my cell phone/email as my primary form of communication with the vast majority of people since they do not know ASL. I am ALSO a professional concert cellist. I have performed at Carnegie Hall and around the world.

That said - THANK YOU! It is about damn time someone stopped the damn cell phones from ringing in concerts. We ask people to turn them off for a reason. You are there to enjoy the music, we are there to entertain you and hopefully speak to your soul, and to help you to relax - checking your cell phone every 5 minutes is NOT relaxing nor helps you enjoy it. Even if you have your cell phone sound off, but the screen lit up, we can see that. Other patrons can see that. It is not polite, it is not discreet and it is not appropriate.

It days of yore (I love that phrase), a night at the symphony meant black tie and evening wear. That is no longer the case. I really do not care if someone comes in jeans and a t-shirt honestly, though business attire is considered more appropriate, but TURN YOUR CELL PHONES OFF. It is distracting to everyone. The performers, the conductor, other concert goers, everyone.

I just wish I had been there at that concert. Epic. Win.

a post with content

Went with Kylie to the Golden School for the Deaf today to teach them about music. The older students are coming to the symphony this weekend too, so I'll be giving them a tour and several members of the symphony will be doing a Q&A session. Thankfully, there will be interpreters.

I really love going to deaf schools and teaching the kids about music. Firstly, they love that I know ASL, I know the culture and the community, but also, I get to impart my love of music. I also love that I never need an interpreter. It's also fun. Kids are awesome.

I need to get more involved in the deaf community here, there's a fairly large one actually. It's always a little awkward though because while I know ASL fluently and it is my first language, I am also not deaf. I'll get it worked out. Now, to bed. I am exhausted and there is still rehearsal tomorrow.

I have no words....literally...

Back in May, Two deaf men using sign language were stabbed at a Hallandale Beach bar when another costumer thought they were flashing gang signs.

WTF?!?!?!? Only in Florida...

Post of Bragging

Aka, what Cadie got for Christmas, age 26

Photoscore! It's software that takes handwritten music, scans it and puts it into sheet music on the computer, allowing you to play it back and save it, edit it, etc. etc. This goes well with the home studio I already have to play, record and write music with.

Spectrum AIL602 Digital Electronic Drum Set with Adjustable Stand I don't know how to play the drums, so this is a sort of beginner kit for me to start learning with. I'll invest in a better one (and probably an acoustic kit as well) once I decide if I truly want to pursue drums or just keep it as a hobby.

And there was other less important and interesting stuff. Including socks with music notes on them. Oh yeah :D

Hope your Christmas' were just as amazing!

I am never complaining about roommates again...

Roommate one shoots roommate two, revealing a third roommate is a child rapist while roommate four sleeps.

I couldn't make this up if I tried.

Joshua Bell plays at L'Enfant metro station in DC

This is a few years old, but no less amazing. Joshua Bell is one of the worlds virtuoso violinists. A child prodigy turned accomplished adult performer who is quite honestly one of the best violinists in the world.

He played for free, some of the most difficult music ever, at a train station in DC one morning to see what might happen as a part of a social experiment.

The full story is here.
